Preparing for your household move

Pack room by room and label every box with its contents and the room it belongs to in the new home. Start with rooms you use least — guest rooms, storage and wardrobes. Empty the fridge and freezer at least a day before the move and disconnect the washing machine. Disassemble furniture that won't fit through doorways whole: IKEA wardrobes, large bed frames and dining tables. Collect all screws and fittings in labelled bags and tape them to the furniture. Make sure stairwells and lifts are clear and parking for the van is arranged at both addresses. Have keys to both homes ready and let neighbours know there will be extra activity in the stairwell.

A house move usually means a larger household spread across multiple floors, a basement and sometimes a garage. It can involve heavy wooden sofas, safes, tools, garden furniture and seasonal items like skis and bicycles. We scale the team up for house moves — more carriers, a larger van and multiple trips if needed. We plan the entire move in advance so we know which rooms to clear first, which furniture needs disassembling and how to load most efficiently. Household moving is eligible for the Swedish RUT tax deduction. You get a 50% deduction on the labour cost – up to SEK 75,000 per person per year. The deduction is handled directly on the invoice, so you only pay half the price for the work.
